Use of brick dust to optimise the dewatering process of hydrated lime mortars for conservation applications

چکیده

Abstract The impact of dewatering on lime mortars modified using brick dust was studied, as it is particular importance in conservation applications. Dewatering takes place when freshly mixed come into contact with a porous substrate, such or stone, during site construction. Since the process between mortar and its substrate can modify properties, understanding enables pozzolan-modified hydrated to be optimised for masonry units being bonded. Evaluation water transport kinetics dust—hydrated binder systems demonstrated their more releasing behaviour. Investigations non-dewatered dewatered specimens volume ratio 1:1:2 (lime:brick dust:sand) showed that addition increased dewatering, which turn led greater compressive strength, carbonation depth, decreased porosity depth penetration. These properties are great historic masonry, too strong possess low permeability accelerate degradation. This study will enable identification most suitable mix designs thereby increasing durability prolonging life masonry.
